AZ Alkmaar is considering the transfer of Valdemar Byskov, a 21-year-old midfielder from FC Midtjylland. The Alkmaar team has approached both the player and the club.
Byskov has emerged as an alternative now that negotiations with Thom van Bergen from FC Groningen are proving difficult. He can play as a controlling and attacking midfielder, in the number 8 and 10 positions.
In four years at Midtjylland, Byskov made 99 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists. For AZ Alkmaar, currently 7th in the Eredivisie with 52 points and a recent form of DDDDW, he would be a young, versatile option in midfield.
Nothing is yet known about a transfer fee or concrete negotiations. With the attention on Byskov, AZ Alkmaar is at least broadening its search for a midfielder beyond just Van Bergen. AZ Alkmaar recently drew 3-3 against NAC Breda on May 17, 2026, and is unbeaten in the last 5 games.
